The Golden Compass Movie ... Don't Watch ItForum Discussion for The Golden Compass Movie ... Don't Watch It 123456789…next ›last » Submitted by Sarah D. on Fri, 12/05/2008 - 13:20
Ok, right, i am doing children's fiction at univeristy and we have done about the book and film Northern Lights and the Golden Compass (i have also read all three books and seen the film), Lyra and Will, DO NOT KILL GOD! they get rid of the authority (which Pullman associates with God, because he is an atheist), which is meant to represent the views that people have of God, and what God represents. The authority is also trying to make the children of the world do whatever they want, which of course is not right. Children learn by their own mistakes, which Lyra and Will do and that is what all children do. It is up to them what they watch and take in. It is not the parents decision to dictate what their child watches or reads when it is considered childrens fiction. It would not be in the childrens section in book shops and libraries if it was not suitable for children. Whatever your religious view take the film and the books with a pinch of salt. It conveys a message to the viewers and readers that they can either believe of not. But I personally like Pullman's idea, because the authority do not have the power to dictate everyone, especially innocent children. If you believe that they do then you are a hypocrtie! Christian authority hates this movie because it may teach kids that curuosity is a good thing. Submitted by Tiffany S. on Tue, 11/04/2008 - 23:01
Um, it's not even about Christianity it's about Catholicism. Maybe Christians should do a little more research before they get offended by something that's not even targeted at them. Also, it wasn't even written with that intent.. You know the saying art mimics life.. Wow zealots they are never without a cause no matter how trivial. Submitted by Lynn S. on Sun, 11/02/2008 - 04:46
I dont see why people should sign a petition to stop people from watching a movie thats supposedly against god. People shouldnt take away the movie for the sake of christians. What about the people that LIKE the book and want to watch the movie, or arent christian? Although I have to say the movie was quite crap. PEOPLE HAVE THE RIGHT TO BELIEVE WHAT THEY WANT. Free world, if you didnt know that. Submitted by Nicolle A. on Wed, 10/22/2008 - 03:08
let me get this straight.... Christians can critizise and put down other faiths, but get offened if they get the same back at them? I read the books to my kids and have the movie just to spite them. Submitted by preston d. on Wed, 10/15/2008 - 13:39
what is wrong with having movies and books against religion? most christians in this world always want to cut down atheist and non christians thinking they are so much better than every one else. there is no proof that any god of any religion is real. what is the point in believeing in someting when theres no proof of its existance? beliveing in god is like believing in the easter bunny or santa clause every one knows they dont exist Submitted by Sarah N. on Tue, 10/14/2008 - 07:01
My family ,especially my child will NOT watch this movie. Submitted by Sarah N. on Wed, 10/15/2008 - 20:20
Well, I'm not trying to sound rude, and I'm not saying that everyone doesn't or can't have their own beliefs/religion. To each their own. We will see in the end who is right. As for my family, we are christians. We are raising our child, and will continue to raise our child(ren) as christians. And I'm sorry, but we don't watch anything that attacks or criticizes our faith. And a movie about killing GOD our Father? I don't think so. Not that GOD CAN be killed, but it's just the point. its not bad but i wouldn't say it was the best movie. i don't think its boring but thats a matter of opinion. Submitted by Barry G. on Sat, 10/04/2008 - 21:56
Apart of incorrectly including Kevin Bacon, who wasn't in this film, as part of the cast, I have to agree with what you're saying. While some find this sacrilegious and others find it bland, the rest, such as myself, find it boring. And, as JoJo's character, Cassie Munro says in her film "RV", "I can throw up from how bored I am." Submitted by Velora P. on Thu, 09/25/2008 - 20:34
I think the movie was pretty good...Daniel Craig and Sam Elliott...not a bad cast......but i must say the language on this forum is distgusting....can't you converse without cursing or all you all so feeble minded that you can't find a another word to describe your feelings. Oh COME ON!!!!!!!!! It's a book for crying out loud! Books are made from people's minds. Are you trying to say that the author's crazy or something? People can read whatever they want, Just because ONE TIME the the author said that doesn't mean that that was what he really meant. I'm a Christian as well and I understand what you mean but you're blowing it WAY out of purportion Submitted by Miranda B. on Sat, 09/13/2008 - 02:38
Like seriously READ IT!!! Its a book for crying out loud, thats why its in the Submitted by Miranda B. on Sat, 09/13/2008 - 02:36
No, are you **** KIDDING ME. READ THE BOOK "Oh lets kill god." If Phillip Pullman, who is a magnificent author wants to say that. then let him, but it does not say that in the book. Stop being narrow minded. **** IDIOTS Submitted by bethany w. on Sun, 09/07/2008 - 20:17
so i read further down, and to everyone, paretns should read the books first. though my personal opinion is an aversion to the books and the idea, and i get this campaigns goal, but parents can make the decisions for themselves. sure get the word out, i have a friend who read the books before she would let her children read them or see the movie. Submitted by bethany w. on Sun, 09/07/2008 - 20:15
aye. i agree. maybe a little over the top....but didn't the movie bomb anyways? Submitted by at Facebook on Tue, 09/02/2008 - 23:31
ok im a christian but i think u went way to far with this crap some people just read way to much into this stuff WOW are you serious? Look people these books were written a long time ago, my father read them and passed them down to me. I'm all about a good story and I get to decide what I want after the book is over. That doesn't mean it's not a good book or movie. Children should have the right to decide what they want to watch and read, and if parents are so worried about this movie read the **** book yourself. Make the educated decision and understand like Ida H said give them more **** credit. Retarded christian people thinking everything is a attack..this is a attack..open your minds already. Submitted by Michael M. on Thu, 08/21/2008 - 15:18
while i agree with you on most things, you dont have to be so angry. and secondly, the books were written in the 1990's. That isnt quite "a long time ago". Not having a strong grasp of the facts is just what makes me mad about people boycotting the movie/books - so don't be guilty of the same thing. and attacking the other side doesn't make rational people look any better. all you are doing is sinking to the same level. very hypocritical. I'm Christian and still went to see the first movie. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, not because it's supposedly anti-God, but because it simply wasn't a well done movie. The plot skips around too often. They failed to showcase the talents of Kidman and Craig. Even with the perfect young actress for the lead role, the movie just wasn't very good. Submitted by Ida H. on Tue, 08/05/2008 - 23:31
How narrowminded.. Broaden your vision people! It's a movie designed to make people think about their world, their lives and their beliefs. If you truly believe you won't be swayed by a movie.. Besides that, shouldn't your kids have the right to choose their own beliefs? Children can handle a lot more than you give them credit for. (Other than that, I agree that the books are way better than the movie xD ) Submitted by jenny w. on Sat, 08/02/2008 - 05:54
Children are beautiful little sponges, what they hear and see sinks into thier little hearts. Lets be wise in what we allow them to watch! Loading People... |
