Description:

We the Student Body and the Parents of the Bedford County Schools, Bedford, VA propose to have a casual, formal school uniform through 12th grade. The Students Body is tired of seeing our peers navels and poor dressing on campus. We are tired of having to work so hard in choosing what to wear every morning rather than focusing on learning. We want a fun, hip, casual, informal uniform for our school. We feel that the School Board should listen to our desire and understand that this is something that we, the student body, want! Perhaps it would be a choice of 2 shirts. One long sleeve, one short sleeved. And then 2 pairs of Kaki Dress pants (one regular and one new one every year designed by the incoming seniors!) and one pair of cool shorts. Shoes are to be white. Belts should be mandatory and shirts tucked in. Socks should be white as well. And the student body would police themselves with the help of the admin. (you already do this anyway by sending us to the office if we are inappropriately dressed!) Please sign this petition so that we can begin to implement this new casual formal uniform for all students at Bedford County Schools.  We further think this will improve safety in our school, because you will be able to quickly know if someone belongs there or is a visitor or possibly an outsider trying to endanger us. This will also reduce the ability to form gangs or attempt to show gang affiliation. Thank you! Please join our cause and show your support!

Forum Discussion for Support School Uniforms in Virginia

I agree & disagree with uniforms. They are good for the fact everyone is dressed appropriately. But letting children wear what they wants shows individuality. I had a dress code where I went to high school. That works pretty well. Children can wear what they want but have certain limits.

Please, rethink. I've been wearing uniforms for years now. I'm a sophomore & I've been wearing them since the 5th grade. It gets old. Dress code would be more appropriate for your situation. Try like blue jeans and polos. Not too revealing & still very comfortable & controllable while expressive.
