Planting trees is a wonderful way to help out. I planted over 7 this summer. Also remember to recycle ALL your paper products...If you seperate the colored from white it should be easy to find a recycling center near by. It's nice to see across from my house there is a new development going up and they are surrounding the houses with trees (it was a farm). Half of my 6 acres is trees and I hope to keep it that way. Submitted by Sharon D. on Mon, 07/14/2008 - 18:03
I am not in the kind of living situation where I can plant trees, but I am a member on the National Arbor Day Foundation and for the past few years they have a program in which you make a donation and they plant trees in the name you designate. I have planted 4 trees in memorial to people I have lost. Another suggestion would be to collect your used paper at work or home and donate it to the paper fundraisers. In my county it seems every school, church, and municipality has these paper collection bins. The organization makes money on your junk mail and scrap paper. This paper then doesn’t end up in the landfills and gets recycled. I plant about 2 trees a year. One year I planted 11 saplings, but only 3 are still left. What have you done lately- I realized that over the years I have planted more trees than I have cut down. Does that make me green? I think there should be laws put into effect requiring any company that harms the environment to plant enough trees yearly to offset any damage that they cause. Submitted by patricia r. on Fri, 04/25/2008 - 06:01
