"Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of our Lives." For over one-third of a century, those words have introduced and underscored one of daytime drama's rare mainstays. NBC's "Days of our Lives," which turned 42 this past November, first premiered as a half-hour drama in 1965 and expanded to an hour 10 years later. Today, it remains a consistent favorite among viewers of daytime television serials. On January 19th NBC announced that Days of Our Lives is unlikely to continue past 2009. 

In its 42 years, "Days of our Lives" has garnered numerous Emmy Awards and nominations, as well as multiple "Soap Opera Digest" and "People's Choice" Awards. The show's success derives from its consistent commitment to excellence in writing and storytelling - supported by a diverse ensemble of performers - and an uncanny knack for anticipating viewer interests. From demonic possessions and serial killers to genre traditions such as baby switches, amnesia and classic love triangles, "Days of our Lives" remains a perennial favorite among viewers of all ages.

"Days of our Lives" is set in the fictitious Midwestern town of Salem. The core families are the Hortons and Bradys, and the multi-layered storylines involve elements of romance, adventure, mystery, comedy and drama. Original cast member Frances Reid continues to star as Alice Horton.

"Days of our Lives" is produced by Corday Productions Inc. in association with Sony Pictures Television. Executive producer Ken Corday is following in the tradition of his parents, Betty and Ted Corday, who co-created "Days of our Lives" and helmed the series for many years. Ed Scott is also executive producer. Hogan Sheffer is the headwriter."

On T.V. I watch DAYS OF OUR LIVES, Jeopardy and
Wheel of Fortune and That is IT. NOTHING ELSE

i have watch this show for over 22 yrs and i love it i would hate to see is go it is better than gh i think and i even dvr when i am not at home ....

Days of Our Lives is the best day time show. I have watched it for many years and enjoyed it. I have tried to watch other soaps but they don't hold a candle to Days. I can remember watching it as a kid with my mother. Many happy memories it's like a part of the family. Please don't cancel the show.GD

I just can't believe that NBC is trying to cancel Days, the number 1 show. Please don't take away this well loved soap from it's viewer.

Days is one of my favorite soaps to watch on NBC. It has been one of the best soaps for me to watch ever since 1995 when I started watching it. Please keep it on NBC or just move it to TNT Drama network. But please keep the show running. Thanks!!

Days is the best and only soap I want to view. I look forward to it each day My son and I discuss it every day on the telephone. We both love it. Please do not take this soap away. It is the best.

Days is the best day time soap, what do you mean that it might get canceled? My mother and I used to watch Days all the time until she passed. We would call each other at home and talk bout just what happened on every commercial! So if you get rid of this show your taking moments like that away from people. I love the drama and all the characters that are on Days. Everyone is amazing in their own way. So why take off the best soap there is and disappoint all the fans that Days has. It would be just plain stupid to take it off the air after all this time. I have been wathcing Days as long as I can remember. So please dont take it off the air. Thats my 1 hour that I get to myself and it brings back memories of my mother. PLease dont kill that for me.

I agree with you. That's my favorite daytime soap opera. I hope that they might move it over to like TNT drama network instead of cancelling the show. I think that is the stupidest thing that NBC has ever pulled.

I'm 27 and have been watching Days as long as I can remember. Everybody in the household watches it, even my 10 year old nephew. It is our family time together....... Teri

I am 36 years old and I have been watching Days of our Lives since I can remember. I would sit and watch it with my mother, grandmother, aunts and cousins everyday after school while doing homework or arts and crafts. I have seen soaps come and go, but Days has always been around. It is the only Soap Opera that I continue to watch out of all the soaps I watched as a very young child. I would hate to see it canceled and replaced with some talk show that I don't care to watch. So if my opinion can help I would have to say don't cancel DAYS OF OUR LIVES!!! I was heart broken when Santa Barbra and As the world Turns were canceled and Passions was aired. I wouldn't give Passions a second look when it first started but one day it just grow on me. Now you can only watch it if you have direct tv, I don't so that is three soaps out of four that I have enjoyed and has been removed from daytime tv.

Please don't cancel Days. You can dump Sami, she's way too old to be such a spoiled brat. The rest of the characters are fantastic.

I'm only 30 but I've been watching "Days" for 18 years! It is so enthralling and definitley has some of the most attractive men on daytime tv:) Please don't cancel! Why would you anyways?

Days of our lives should not be cancelled. The writers need to do a better job. The scenes are too drawn out.

Please!!!!!!............ DO Not Cancel Days Of OUr LIves!!!! It is the best soap on tv. Its the only thing i have to look foward after a long day at school!!! I Love Days I mean everything about it is great: the people, the storylines, the script. Please keep days on the air and on a channel that evryone can watch it on!!!! Don't be like Passions!! Please don't cancel Days its the only thing on at noon that I have ever watched since I was 10. It's a family tradition. Even my boyfriend watches it. He won't admit it but he does.

I have been watching DOOL for over 30 years. I remember watching it with my Grandmother who watched it from the beginning. I have enjoyed watching it. Please keep it going on NBC. We don't want what has happened to Passions to happen to DOOL. Please keep it going.

Someone refered to DOOL as their "guilty pleasure" and I so agree. I was recently away for a month and
taped every day I was gone. When I returned I lay awake with jetlag watching DOOL for many long nights over two weeks. I've been a fan for more than 25 years and while it's true some story lines
are better than others, loyalty to the families of
Salem is a "given". Loyalty is hard to come by these days and fans of soaps are the truest fans of all. Network chiefs should think long and hard before betraying the loyal fans of DOOL or any of the soaps.
While millions of dollars are invested in "slug" nighttime shows and day time talk shows that fail, it would seem prudent to keep the tried and true soaps.

I HAVE WATCHED FOR AWHILE BUT MY AUNT AND MY MOTHER HAVE WATCHED IT LONGER ESPCIALLY MY AUNT ... SHE HAS WATCHED SINCE IT CAME ON SO PLEASE KEEP DAYS OF OUR LIVES ON NBC....... NBC HAS ALREADY TOOK ONE SOAP OFF AND PUT IT ON DIRECT TV THEY CAN NOT DO IT TO A SECOND ONE. THANK YOU LORRIE FROM SC

Everyone I know watches Days of Our Lives. We won't have anything to discuss! I personally have been watching since it aired in 1965. Sammy & E.J could start a whole new story line. Please don't even think of removing this show from DAYS OF OUR LIVES.

I am 40 years old & I can remember as a baby my Grandmother watching Days of our lives everyday at lunch time. I love the show & the characters and don't beleive that it should be cancelled.

I have watched Days almost my entire life. I am 46 years old. Why do people want to fix something that is not broken... Leave the good shows alone. My Fav's are Steve & Kayla. Please leave this show alone and let these awesome actors do what they do best... Live on DAYS OF OUR LIVES.....
